Huzzah!

My latest project at the pottery studio was a success! I made a USS Constitution stamp in honor of the USS Constitution museum, where I work. I used the stamp to make many, many tiles. They came out great!!

Slab Built Pot

I got yet another piece out of the kiln last night. It is a slab built pot with some stamped on designs. I originally envisioned it as a mug, but a pot with straight sides is more or less useless as a mug. It would be perfect as a planter for a small herb though!

Trees and Girrrl!!! and another little piece of my soul

The weather has been beautiful and I have been spending more time out on my back porch drawing trees. Here they are!

I am also working steadily on the next chapter of Girrrl!!!, I promise. Here is one panel of which I am particularly proud. I have not put the plaid in Aaron's shirt, nor have I made it pretty in photoshop, but I think you will like it all the same..

And to finish off this post, here is another swirly thing I doodled, which I likened to the shape of my soul in another post:

I finally have brought home all of my Feet of Clay pottery and photographed it for your viewing pleasure! I picked the cream of the crop to display. I had a couple other pieces that I was not as pleased with, mainly because of the way the glazes came out, but you can't win 'em all. 

First is my altered tea cup. I threw it on the wheel and then messed it up a little and in the process of trying to fix it messed it up more and so I made these pointy embellishments. In the art world, we call that an altered form because it sounds fancier than saying, "Well, it was supposed to be a circle but I botched it a little."

Anyway, I used one of my stamps to make a little decoration on the handle!

I am IN LOVE with the way the glaze came out on this next mug. I saw it on the shelf and thought, "WOW that glaze looks fantastic! I wonder who made it?" and then I saw my heron stamp and it blew my mind. This is also the mug that inspired one of my friends to say, "Wow, it's like the perfect size for pouring liquid into your face" thus the title of this post.

 

The following is a bowl that I think would be great for rice!

Look at those stamps! It has my initials and everything!

The next pot is my first lidded vessel from Feet of Clay and again, I am beside myself with Joy at how the glaze turned out. LOOK AT IT!! It is beautiful!!

The kiln melted the glaze, then the glaze melted my heart.

...and look at those stamps! SO COOL.

And finally, my tiniest pot. When I was throwing, it started as a normal sized pot but kept being off center and lopsided so I kept going, "Well, I'll just cut off the uneven part and then try again" and that happened so many times that eventually it was just bigger than a quarter. 

I couldn't find it on the shelf so I asked a member of the studio if she had seen a tiny brown pot and she said, "um... the one everyone's talking about? Yeah, I've seen it." Then she helped me find it. I guess this little guy was pretty popular.

I glazed a few more things this week and made a new stamp, so more posts are upcoming!
